Sister of the Bride

It's no secret that we have a big year of weddings ahead of us. We started off 2011 with a trip to Minnesota for Ashley's wedding, thus beginning "wedding season". But, before the nuptial celebrations comes the excitement of each of their engagements: AshleyKelseyNatalie, and Morgan. It has been, and will be, such fun to celebrate with all of you girls!

It just sort of happened that I wrote posts about these four special friends, never intending to ignore the excitement surrounding the engagement of my dear sister, for whom I play the special role of being 'Matron of Honor'. (Yes, I'm choosing to embrace the 'matron' title, ancient though it makes me sound. Married and proud of it...what can you do?) In any case, I didn't write a sappy engagement post about my sister, in large part because, let's face it...I've got to save the good stuff for my speech at the reception. (Which, I should add, has already kept me awake at night twice now, though the wedding is still three months away. If only there were less nice things to say about her....)

Plus, we're talking about my little sister, and it's wonderful and life-changing and I'm oh, so happy for her...but, it's also really strange to think about. I haven't entirely wrapped my head around the "Rachel's getting married...like, MARRIED, married" thing just yet. So, there's that. But, I am getting there, and growing more and more excited as the big day nears. (Seeing the cute dress I get to wear that's hanging at my parents' house may or may not have a little something to do with that.)

Due to the fact that this is a rather significant event that will occupy much of my time and be much on my mind and heart in the upcoming months, it's entirely likely that this isn't the last you'll hear about it. I do have a bridal shower to plan, after all, so you know there'll be details to come about that! Fun, fun! (Seriously, that's the next big task...nailing down a few of the many ideas and creative musings about that occasion.)

For now, though, I'll say this.... June 4th is going to be an absolutely incredible day, with a gorgeous girl and her beloved, and I'll be so honored to stand by her side.

the wedding day moments...
because she always does.
